This is the final section in John's book where he culminates it all by summing it all up in one verse; 1 John 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. He talks about the assurance of eternal life, the assurance of answered prayer if we are right with God and asking in God's will, the assurance of judgement if we keep on sinning in an area in which God has dealt with us and told us to quit; He also talks about the assurance of our protection by God; and an understanding and assurance that we have trusted in the true God and have eternal life in that relationship, as in John 17:3; and to keep ourselves from idols. This book either condemns us because we have not trusted in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for our sin alone for our salvation, or it can give us the assurance that we know that we know that we know that we have eternal life because we have trusted in the only one who could give it to us, Jesus Christ; Amen Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
